ఇంగ్లీష్ భాషలో స్పోకెన్ ఇంగ్లీష్ లో మనం మాట్లాడే విధానాన్ని సోషల్ లాంగ్వేజ్ గా భావించాలి. ఎందుకంటే మానవుడు సంఘజీవి కనుక.
సోషల్ లాంగ్వేజ్ అర్థం ఏమిటంటే....

సాధారణమైన, గ్రామరు పరంగా, వాక్య నిర్మాణ పరంగా పలకరింపులు జరుగుతూ ఉంటాయి. వాటిని వివిధ సందర్భాలలో సందర్భానుసారంగా ఉపయోగించుకుంటుంటాము. వీటినే సోషల్ లాంగ్వేజెస్ అంటారు.
వాటిలో మొదటగా ముఖ్యమైనది ‘గ్రీటింగ్ ’ అంటే...పలకరింపు అన్న మాట. దీనిని ఎలా ఉపయోగిస్తామో చూద్దాం....!!

Greetings :
There are three kinds of Greetings.
They are :
1. Greetings at the time of meeting
2. Greetings at the time of leaving
3. Occasional Greetings
Occasional Greetings గురించి తెలుసుకుందాం....!!
Occasional Greetings : These greetings can not be greeted every day.
Occasion means a particular tiem when an event take place.
We greet people in different ways on different occasions.
1. On a festival :
a) Wish you a happy Deewali
b) Happy Pongal
c) Merry x'mas
d) Wish you a bright and prosperous new year
2. On a birthday
a) Wish you a happy birth day
b) Happy birthday to you
c) Many happy returns of the day
3. On a journey
a) Wish you a nice / happy / safe / wonderful journey
b) Bye-bye. Have a wonderful time
c) Look after yourself
Note :
Bonvoyage : It is used to express good wishes to a departing traveller. The meaning is "good journey". It is usually used when people travel to other courntries.
4. On a success
a) Congratulations
b) My hearty congratulations
c) I would like to congratulate you
d) Allow me to offer my warmest / heartiest congratulations
5. On a failure
a) Better luck next time
b) Don't worry, try again
c) You must be terribly disappointed. Never mind and don't lose heart
d) Hard luck / bad luck
e) I am terribly sorry, but don't worry, I am sure some thing better will turn up
6. On the death of a person
a) Condolences
