ప్రియమైన విద్యార్థినీ విద్యార్థులారా....!!
ఇప్పుడు ‘సిలబుల్’ కు సంబంధించిన విషయాన్ని గూర్చి తెలుసుకుందాం.
Syllable అనగా ఒక పదము యొక్క ఉచ్ఛారణ రూపం.
ఒక పదమును మాట్లాడుటకు గానీ, పలుకుటకు గానీ, స్పెల్లింగ్ ను నేర్చుకొనుటకు గాను సులభంగా వాడుచున్నదే ‘‘సిలబుల్’’ .
ఒక పదములో ఒకటి లేదా అంత కంటే ఎక్కువ (వోవెల్స్) VOWELS కలిగి ఉండును. అలాగే (వోవెల్) VOWEL ఒకటి లేదా రెండు (కన్సొనెంట్స్) CONSONANTS కలిగి ఉంటుంది. ఈ రెండూ (VOWEL & CONSONANTS) కలిసి ఉన్న దానినే ‘‘యూనిట్’’ అంటారు. (యూనిట్ ఆఫ్ ప్రొనౌన్సియేషన్ - Unit of Pronounciation) అంటారు).
ఈ పై సమూహమునే ‘‘సిలబల్’’ అని కూడా అంటారు.
ఉదాహరణకు :
PEN
PEN - పెన్ అని ఒక ఉచ్చారణతో సాగుతుంది.
SPLENDID
SPLEN - DID - స్ప్లెం - డిడ్ = అని రెండు విరామాలతో, ఉచ్ఛారణతో సాగుతుంది.
BEAUTIFUL
BEAU - TI - FUL - బ్యూ - టి - ఫుల్ = అని మూడు విరామాలతో, ఉచ్చారణతో సాగుతుంది.
ఇటువంటి వాటిని బాగా అభ్యసనం చేస్తే.....
ఇంగ్లీష్ భాషలోని పదాలు మనకు గట్టిగా పట్టుపడతాయి. ఇందులో ఎటువంటి సందేహం లేదు. సంశయం లేదు.
ఇంగ్లీష్ లో కొంచెం అడ్వాన్స్ స్థాయిలో ఉన్న వారి కోసం.....(అన్ని స్థాయిలలో ఉన్న వారికోసం కూడానూ)
దిగువన ఉదహరించినట్లు....జాగ్రత్తగా పరిశీలించండి.
A Syllable is a single unit of speech. It could be a whole word.
Example : oh, so, but
A Syllable could also be one of the parts into which a word is separated when it is spoken or shown as separate units when printed.
Examples :
go has one syllable : go
system has two syllables : sys. tem
systemic has three syllables : sys. tem. ic
systematic has four syllables : sys. tem. a. tic
syntactically has five syllables : syn. tac. ti. ca. lly
systematically has six syllables : sys. tem. a. ti. ca. lly
Unlike Indian languages, all the syllables are not given equal importance in English.
In go, as it is a monosyllabic word, stress is usually not marked on it. However, it is stressed.

In system the first syllable is stressed - SYStem.
In systemic, the second syllable is stress - susTEMic
In systematic, the third syllable is stressed - systeMAtic
In syntactically, the second syllable is stressed - synTACtically
In systematically, the third syllable is stressed - systeMATically
As you can see, English native speakers use more force on some syllables and less force on the others.
The syllables which are spoken with more force are known as stressed syllables.
ఇలా పదాలను విడగొట్టి.....ఎక్కడ విరవాలో....ఎక్కడ పలకాలో...ఎక్కడ వత్తాలో....ఎక్కడా కలపాలో....ఎక్కడ ధ్వని తీవ్రత తగ్గించాలో, ఎక్కడ ధ్వని తీవ్రత పెంచాలో.....తెలుసుకొంటే....!!
ఇక మీకు ఇంగ్లీష్ స్పెల్లింగ్ లలో తిరుగే లేదు. అయితే దీని కోసం చాలా శ్రమించాల్సి ఉంటుంది. శ్రమ లేకుండా ఫలితం రాదు కదా....!!
అందుకని ప్రతి రోజూ డిక్షనరీ ని దగ్గర పెట్టుకొని కనీసం రోజుకు 10 పదాలకు తక్కువ కాకుండా ‘‘అవసరమైతే బట్టీ ’’ పట్టైనా సరే వీటి భరతం పట్టండి. మీకు ఇంగ్లీష్ ఎందుకు రాదో చూద్దాం.....!!
విద్యార్ధులారా....శెలవులను వృధా చేయకుండా ఇలా డిక్షనరీని ఔపోసన పట్టేయండి.

ఒక చిన్న కరెక్షన్. సిలబల్ తెలుగులో "మాత్ర" కాదు, "అక్షరం". మీరిచ్చిన ఉదాహరణలో Pen - పెన్ అన్న పదంలో ఉన్నది ఒక అక్షరం, రెండు మాత్రలు. అలాగే "Splendid" - "స్ప్లెండిడ్"లో ఉన్న అక్షరాలు 2, మాత్రలు 4. ఇంగ్లీషు పదాన్ని తెలుగు లిపిలో రాస్తే తెలుగులో వచ్చే అక్షరాలు సరిగ్గా ఇంగ్లీషు పదంలోని Syllablesతో సరిపోతాయి.
